The main principles of direct selling
05 APRIL 2018
Yves Duplatre has been atthe helm of Elora, the ready-to-wear home shopping brand, for over 12 years. Together with his team and some 1,000 independent home sales assistants, they are responsible every day for the success of this leading fashion brand in France and abroad. A passionate entrepreneur and father of three, Yves Duplatre talks about 5 key principles of direct selling and entrepreneurship.
1/ Having the right idea at the right time
Elora is an example of a great idea that responds to a real desire: to live a more relaxed and personalised fashion, without taboos, whatever your figure. The idea? 1,000 fashion consultants who travel the length and breadth of France, dressing under their arm, to present their fashion favourites in the friendly confines of their "home sweet home". These intimate private sales are held in the presence of around ten guests, with a hostess and a fashion consultant trained in makeovers and the latest trends from the fashion world.
2/ Cultivate your difference... without compromise!
For Yves Duplatre, what makes Elora so successful in France and internationally? Without a doubt, the absence of compromise! We are uncompromising when it comes to product quality, style and innovation, in order to deliver clothes that are " beautiful and innovative, but also comfortable and of impeccable quality ", he explains. "I sincerely believe that if a company has a good product to offer, it can build and grow even when times are tough". Even though the economic climate over the last 5 years seems unfavourable, Elora has nevertheless enjoyed very strong growth since 2012. Elora is recruiting more and more VDIs, particularly in France, Canada and Switzerland.
3/ The team, the key to success
"Alone we can go fast, together we can go further" is how the Elora teams put it. "I'm in constant dialogue with my teams, whether they're at head office or out in the field". As for Elora's fashion consultants, the brand brings them together twice a year in prestigious locations all over France. " I have a special relationship with most of them. Our fashion consultants do an exceptional job and I say 'thank you' to them every time I get the chance. Some of them have become friends . When Yves Duplatre isn't criss-crossing France to meet them, he's also giving management training to 80 consultants, who have become leaders who manage their own teams of independent sales assistants.
4/ Inspiration comes from cohesion
When asked " What are you most proud of? ", Yves Duplatre replies "The working atmosphere! It's very rare these days to work in such an exceptional atmosphere and to get up in the morning happy to see your colleagues. I'm also very proud to see hundreds of women who have regained their self-confidence thanks to their job as a beauty consultant!
5/ Long-term vision
A boundless optimist, Yves Duplatre firmly believes in the future of his company, his team and their development together. " I hope to still be here in 10 years' time. We're overflowing with projects (...) inertia is the number 1 danger in any business, and even more so in the world of fashion ".
Anything else you'd like to add? Bonne route Elora!
