Every year in December, the Pantone Color Institute, the leading authority on colour standardisation and shade classification, finally released the information... and told us which shade will be THE trend for 2025.
Which Pantone colour has been voted "Colour of the Year 2025"?
This flagship colour, which symbolises the zeitgeist and represents collective aspirations, will influence fashion trends and options over the coming months. Unique and distinctive, it embodies a code revealing a state of mind, an attitude and a global lifestyle.
And hold on to your hats... Mocha Mousse has been chosen. This soft, serene shade of brown promises to transport our senses into the pleasure and delicacy it inspires.
Rich espresso, melting chocolate and creamy milk... without gaining an ounce! Just what you need to make your next shopping session with Elora a delight!
A delicious palette that evokes sweetness
For 2025, Pantone seems to have been inspired in its choice of colours by softness, comfort and nature. Mocha Mousse, a rich, sophisticated chocolate brown, reflects a growing desire to connect with natural pleasures. It embodies comfort and balance.
The trend looks set to continue smoothly from now until spring 2025, as "Mocha Mousse" gradually replaces "Peach Fuzz", with similar notions of naturalness and indulgence. Elora is preparing to unveil its Spring 2025 Women's & Men's Collection. This collection is once again orange, with brown clothes and accessories at the height of the trend.
Mocha Mousse" will take over from the enthusiasm generated by "Peach Fuzz", voted Pantone's colour of the year for 2024. A soft, warm orange shade that continues to influence the world of design and fashion! Renowned for its enveloping aura that enriches the mind, body and soul, "Peach Fuzz" was also hailed as a symbol of hope and positivity in uncertain times, offering a touch of light, softness and comfort in everyday life.
But where did this tint with such an appetising name come from?
Much more than just a company, founded in 1962 in the United States, Pantone has revolutionised the industry... and even beyond! By devising a system for matching colours, the Pantone colour chart makes it possible to reproduce shades accurately throughout the world, whatever the medium, the production process or the end product: from a star's dress to a bathroom carpet, from bedroom paintwork to car bodywork... It's like the magic wand of colour!
Pantone's innovation also lies in its ability to anticipate and direct colour trends, by introducing a "colour of the year", which directly influences professionals in the design, marketing, beauty and, above all, fashion industries. In just a few years, the Pantone Matching System (MS) has become an essential standard for design, decoration, fashion and even industry. A real communication facilitator between designers, manufacturers and customers!
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute, explains: "Building on our desire to enjoy the pleasures of everyday life, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses the need to indulge in a thoughtful way. Rich and sophisticated, yet an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expands our perception of brown shades, sometimes considered modest, to evoke luxury and inspiration. Imbued with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a glamorous, understated and distinguished touch."
The designers at Elora, a brand committed to women and low fashion, have the same creative impetus: "Natural influences, light textures and dynamic colour palettes dominate this season. Adopt the trends that resonate with your personality, while exploring unique and daring combinations. Play with dress codes while remaining authentic."
A chic, sober colour that responds to the dual trend of Quiet Luxury and Neoclassicism
Some designers, notably those of a famous paint brand, had placed their bets for 2025 on "Éclat de Joie", a yellow full of sunshine and energy. Others, on "Future Dusk", a dark blue tending towards deep purple.
Mocha Mousse, with its soft, natural hue, is unanimously acclaimed for its deep connection with nature and old stone. This colour is both soft and powerful, creating an atmosphere of simplicity and comfort. It's rich and welcoming, creating a warm, comforting atmosphere for interior design and a sober, sensual look for fashion.
In perfect harmony with the trend towards sustainable luxury, this soft, sober brown embodies the subtle elegance of a fashion that favours quality and finesse. Mocha Mousse is distinguished by its understated elegance, preferring timelessness and refinement to extravagance and bling. In perfect harmony with the Elora spirit!
Even before its official coronation, this shade has been making a name for itself on the catwalks, announcing itself as a must-have. It has already made an impressive debut with more than one haute-couture house... and searches for brown accessories, particularly in suede and nubuck, have been soaring since the end of 2024 (+90% on Google).
Variations and palettes of brown for fashionistas
In the spirit of a gourmet palette, "Mocha Mousse" could well redefine traditional dress codes, as brown is set to take over the colour wheel for the spring-summer 2025 season.
When it comes to makeovers, brown represents balance and softness. As it exudes a reassuring warmth, it sends out positive vibes and encourages communication. Its power, sometimes unsuspected, lies in its ability to transform itself into a palette of captivating colours.
When it comes to Mocha Mousse, it will be perceived as more or less greedy and daring, depending on the clothes and colour combinations of each man and woman who wears it. In principle, a monochrome look will elongate and slim the silhouette, especially as this soft brown can be worn as a total look without being heavy. All you need are a few vitamin-rich accessories to liven things up and make it your spring ally!
Brown, in all its natural shades, but mainly glazed, chocolate, camel and bronze, had begun to knock burgundy off its pedestal. Just as elegant as other popular colour palettes, Mocha Mousse brown symbolises refinement, elegance and versatility.
Some define it as a 'non-colour', like black, and even bet that it will take its place. Have we finally found a more original, brighter alternative to the little black dress and eternal black tights?
