Burn out: what if Elora home sales were the solution?
01 OCTOBER 2021
Laura, 38, with 2 children aged 8 and 12, found herself in a bind in early 2018 when stress overwhelmed her. One Tuesday morning, she was unable to go to work because of a terrible migraine. She went to see her doctor to talk about her constant bouts of fatigue, her insomnia linked to her so-called back pain, etc. She was taken off work for three weeks.
She was off work for three weeks. Strangely enough, she was exhausted, but some of the pain disappeared. She spoke to her GP, who suggested burnout.
A burn out followed by a career change?
Laura has been working as an executive assistant in a construction company for ten years. She says she's had enough of long days, working in a hurry all the time and having to constantly adapt to new organisational and management constraints. What's more, she's not particularly keen on the world of building and civil engineering.
She has changed line managers 4 times in 5 years, so she has had to adapt to change. Today, the cup is full: she's in the middle of a burn-out. She feels that her energy is no longer there, that her memory sometimes fails her and, above all, that she no longer has the drive she had when she started.
After taking a few days off work due to her burnout, she negotiated a contractual redundancy because she no longer felt capable of returning to her job, and decided to ask herself the right questions.
She didn't know what profession she wanted to go into, but she did know what she didn't want and what she was looking for:
- No more imposed working hours
- No more hierarchical superiors
- To be able to reconcile her personal and professional life (holidays, family events, etc.)
- No more unnecessary stress
- More freedom and time to enjoy life
- Find a job and a company that are in line with your values, that make sense
A career change to home shopping with Elora?
The idea of setting up her own business came to her very quickly, but she didn't want to invest all her savings and put herself under the stress of having to control everything as a company director has to do.
It was when she was invited to a ready-to-wear sales meeting of the ELORA brand (a concept she discovered and quickly appreciated) that she decided to become a home sales consultant. She would be able to meet different people, work at her own pace, no longer have a hierarchical superior and discover the world of fashion, which had always interested her. In short, freedom. But she didn't know if she had what it took to be a salesperson, or how to go about prospecting.
So she spoke to the ELORA brand's Personal Stylist, who was present at the sale. After discussing her desires, the stylist gave her advice and told her to give it a go, as there was no risk.

Laura goes into home shopping
3 months later, she decided to launch her own business, as she was not taking any financial risks, as the collection was on loan. She quickly got into the swing of things and began to love this new life, with no routine, lots of socialising, sharing and meeting new people. She also took the time to look after her family and friends, and took up a sporting activity (yoga) to better manage her day-to-day stress.
6 months later, Laura decided to make door-to-door sales her main activity and gave herself 1 year to get back to her previous salary, with a job that was just right for her.
The challenge paid off, as she even exceeded her previous salary with 5 times more holidays per year. As an experienced Personal Stylist, she has discovered a real passion for fashion and advice.
