VDI: what if you started your own business?
Become a VDI: start your own fashion business!
04 NOVEMBER 2020
In their search for meaning at work, many people are turning to entrepreneurship. Becoming your own boss, working in a field in which you feel fulfilled, defining your own objectives... these are just some of the reasons that drive French people to set up their own business. However, the day-to-day life of an entrepreneur is not all plain sailing, and taking the plunge into the world of micro-business can be frightening for many people.
There are, however, solutions that allow you to start a self-employed business while taking fewer risks to become a VDI. Do you have a passion for fashion and want to make a living out of it without having to depend on a boss again? Then becoming a VDI is for you!
VDI: becoming independent while being supported by a company
Becoming a VDI, or door-to-door salesperson, is an excellent way of making a living from your passion while being supported by a company. As a fashion VDI, you sell a brand's collections, but you manage your own schedules and organisation.
The sales you bring in will be totally dependent on your personal motivation and the way you organise yourself. To succeed in home selling, you need to have the soul of an entrepreneur and be totally autonomous.
Home shopping: what are the advantages of having a contract with a company?
The company you choose will not be your "boss", but will be able to :
- support you in your sales process
- pay you a salary, depending on the remuneration model you choose
- provide a communication kit
- offer training
- share the benefits of their brand
You won't be completely on your own, because you'll have the support of a brand. So there are fewer risks on your side. You also have the opportunity to grow while remaining self-employed. You can start out as a solo VDI and gradually build up a team of hostesses and recruit other home-based sellers. Just like a real business owner!
A word of advice: choose the brand you want to work with carefully, so that it matches your entrepreneurial aspirations as well as your personal values.
VDI, a highly advantageous status
Another advantage of VDI if you want to set up your own business is the VDI status itself. This status is very simple to obtain and does not require you to make numerous appointments or gather dozens of pieces of paper. It can be taken out to have a declared additional activity or to become a 100% VDI.
The main advantages of VDI status
- the self-employed home sales assistant is covered by the general social security scheme and therefore has the same social rights as employees
- you can work part time or full time
- self-employed home sellers are completely independent, with no timetables or targets imposed on them
- there is no subordinate relationship between the company and the VDI
As far as taxes are concerned, they are much lower than for fully-fledged companies. In fact, they are the same as for micro-entrepreneurs, and allow you to keep most of your income.
VDI is therefore a good way of becoming your own boss in anexciting field, while having the support of a company, limiting the risks of self-employment and benefiting from an advantageous status.
