Part-time job
Which profession is best for part-time work?
21 JULY 2020
A part-time job is one where the daily, weekly or monthly working hours are less than the legal working hours. Many jobs are compatible with part-time work, whether on a fixed-term or permanent contract or as a VDI.
Sectors conducive to part-time working
On average, 15% of French workers work part-time or half-time - i.e. half the legal working time. Some sectors employ few part-timers, while others are highly favourable. Among the professional sectors most inclined to accept part-time work are personal services, commerce, business services and social work. The main reason why part-time work is so popular in these sectors is because of the flexibility it offers.
Other sectors that are constantly on the lookout for workers, such as catering and construction, will also be more inclined to take on part-time staff, as they do not want to miss out on workers who could be more motivated.
The advantages of part-time work
Many people choose to work part-time in order to better manage the balance between family and professional life, or to launch a project that is close to their hearts. But as well as saving time, part-time working offers a number of additional benefits:
- employees continue to enjoy five weeks' paid holiday a year;
- seniority is counted in the same way as full-time work;
- part-time employees continue to have priority over full-time employees within the company;
- working part-time is not penalised in the event of a family event (birth, marriage, etc.);
- part-time employees continue to enjoy the same benefits (health insurance, luncheon vouchers, etc.).
Working part-time as a self-employed person
Self-employment is still the best way to work part-time. As a self-employed home sales assistant in our Elora team, for example, you decide your own hours and working time. There's no pressure; you organise your schedule to suit you and your priorities.
Freelance status is the easiest and quickest way to work part-time. You don't have to answer to anyone and you get paid in proportion to the time you decide to devote to your activity. At Elora, we offer a ready-to-wear salesperson training course to make the job accessible to everyone. Once you've got started, it's up to you to organise yourself independently and find the working hours that suit you best. Maximum flexibility for a fascinating profession..
VDI: tailor-made part-time work
Ideal for fashion enthusiasts looking for greater freedom and flexibility in their work, the self-employed salesperson profession is becoming increasingly popular. It's one of the safest and easiest ways of fulfilling both your family life and your professional life. Take advantage of a complementary activity at home to launch yourself as a freelancer and work in complete freedom. Not only will you be able to make a living from your passion for fashion, but you'll also earn extra income.
