Home sales and traditional sales: the differences
Door-to-door sales: how do they differ from traditional sales?
17 JUNE 2020
Traditional retailing and door-to-door selling, also known as VDI, are very different. Conventional sales take place in real, physical shops where you can buy your clothes.
Home shopping, as the name suggests, takes place in your own home, or the home of one of your neighbours or friends. The buying process is therefore completely different and does not meet the same demands as in-store sales.
As far as employees are concerned, traditional and home salespeople have very different aspirations and profiles. What's more, retailers have different expectations..
Home shopping: what are the benefits for customers?
The shopping experience in a retail outlet is not the same as in home shopping. If you want to make personalised purchases and receive advice on your choice of outfits, it may be more worthwhile turning to home shopping.
You'll benefit from
- a special moment that you can organise with friends, neighbours or relatives
- a sales consultant at your service, as sales meetings are held in small groups
- personalised advice on your purchases and choice of outfits
- sales at or near your home, without having to go into the town centre
- a real view of the entire collection, as you can see the clothes, touch them and see for yourself the quality of the garments
- great prices if you decide to be a hostess and host the home sale in your home
At Elora, our hostesses receive a gift voucher for organising their first and second private sales and a hostess discount to win their favourite outfit. What's more, they choose their guests, the day and the time of the sale!
VDI: what are the benefits for employees?
In traditional sales, you generally need a degree or at least sales experience. As is often the case in French companies, you'll have to work set hours.
Unless you work in a small independent boutique, you'll be selling a very large collection of clothes and it can be difficult to give customers information, even if you know the whole collection.
What's more, your customers will often be very numerous and scattered around the shop. Conventional retailing is not really designed to offer customers an ultra-personalised sales experience, even though brands are increasingly trying to offer more human shopping experiences.
Conventional sales can be just the thing for you if you :
- have some training or experience
- are looking for a job with a set pace
- don't want to work from home
- want to be with your colleagues every day
- are looking for a fixed salary regardless of the turnover you generate
The strengths of VDI
If you're passionate about fashion, want to establish a real relationship with your customers and want to manage your life as you see fit, home-based selling is for you!
The benefits of VDI :
- accessible to everyone, even without a degree
- total autonomy in managing your schedule
- you can work from home, creating a real work-life balance
- you are paid on merit: the more you invest, the more sales you earn
- you can choose a brand that suits you and shares your values
- you can turn your passion into a profession
- the brand you choose will offer you a sales training course
At Elora, we train our independent retailers in sales techniques. We also teach them the basics of colour matching and how to study body shapes so that they can become real Personal Stylists for their customers.
