The tasks of a ready-to-wear sales assistant
What is the role of a ready-to-wear sales assistant?
20 MAY 2020
For some, the role of a ready-to-wear saleswoman is limited to selling. But that's not true - it's a job that involves much more than that!
Ready-to-wear saleswoman: a wide range of skills required
Fashion sales assist ants have a wide range of responsibilities. Between sales, advice, customer relations and organisation, she has to be a multi-tasker.
Her job as a fashion sales assistant
The term "ready-to-wear sales assistant" obviously includes sales. Fashion sales assistants must carry out sales actions to encourage their customers to buy. Her management sets her achievable targets based on the usual sales generated by the shop.
She generally also manages the financial side of the business. In other words, they check out items or take orders. She then delivers a bill to the customer and collects the corresponding amount. She may also have to manage customer returns, refunding or exchanging clothes that don't fit.
Her role as fashion advisor
The ready-to-wear sales assistant is much more than just a sales assistant. They advise customers on their clothing choices.
Like an image consultant, she has to guide buyers so that they leave with outfits that suit them. Colours, cuts, sizes... they have to be able to advise their customers from head to toe!
They often have the knowledge required to help their customers determine their body shape and the colours that suit them.
Guarantor of customer relations
When we want to buy clothes "physically", our first point of contact is the ready-to-wear sales assistant. More than ever, people are looking for human contact and want to have a good experience.
That's why the first contact is so important. Sales assistants must ensure that customers feel comfortable and welcome. They should be on hand to answer any questions.
This customer relationship must be maintained from the moment the customer enters the shop until they leave, whether or not they leave with any clothes. A shop's reputation is very important, especially in the age of Internet reviews.
Ready-to-wear home sales: the case of the VDI
Ready-to-wear sales assistants can also work from home on behalf of a fashion chain! This is the case at Elora, where we only work with VDIs (independent home-based sellers).
In addition to all the qualities listed above, home-based sales assistants need to be organised and independent. Although they work for a brand, it's up to them to organise their schedule as they see fit.
Our Home Sales Agents are trained in sales techniques and fashion advice. As a result, they take on the role of image consultants more than ever before. Our home sales assistants can even become your "Personal Stylists"!
