How do I determine my body type?
Determine your morphology
19 FEBRUARY 2020
If you want to make the most of your assets, there's nothing better than dressing for your figure! To do this, you first need to determine your body shape.
Before you start reading our article, we suggest you stand in front of a mirror and pay attention to your shoulders, waist and hips. Are your hips wide or narrow? Are your shoulders sloping, thin or well defined? Is your waist marked or not? These are questions to ask yourself before determining your body shape.
You can also turn to a Personal Stylist : she'll be able to guide you and give you the best advice on choosing outfits that suit you.
The different types of body shape: what's yours?
First of all, it's important to note that your height and weight gain or loss in no way affect your shape. Even if you lose weight or gain a few kilos, your basic shape will not change.
Two people of different heights and weights can have the same body shape!
The figure 8
The shoulders of a woman in figure 8 are in line with her hips. She has a voluptuous figure, with a large bust and generous hips. Her waist is very pronounced and her shoulders may droop slightly.
You need to emphasise the waist with wide belts and slim-fitting tops, and avoid adding bulk by choosing clothes that are close to the body.
The ideal garment for the figure-8 woman: the high-waisted pencil skirt
The X shape
The X-shaped woman (or hourglass figure) will have the same kind of silhouette as the 8-shaped woman, but with less generous curves. She has less bust and a slimmer waist. Like the woman in 8, she has aligned shoulders and hips, with a pronounced waist.
Like the figure 8, the waist should be marked. However, slim belts are better suited to X-shaped bodies. Choose fabrics that are fluid but close to the body so as not to weigh down your slim figure.
The ideal piece for the X-shaped woman: cigarette trousers
The A shape
The A (or pyramid) shaped woman has rounded hips that are wider than her shoulders. They often have small breasts and more generous thighs. To dress an A woman, it's a good idea to flesh out the bust to balance out the hips. V-necklines, tops with shoulder pads and wrap-arounds, patterns and trapeze dresses are your allies!
The ideal piece: the patterned wrap-around blouse
The V shape
The V shape (or inverted pyramid) is athletic. V-shaped women have well-defined shoulders that are wider than their hips. Their legs are often slender, which is a real asset to be highlighted by your clothes! So opt for flared skater skirts, peplum tops, trousers with volume, straight dresses and fitted jackets.
The ideal piece: fluid, chic jogging trousers
The H shape
The H (or rectangle)shape is characterised by the alignment of its shoulders, waist and hips. The waist is not very pronounced and the silhouette is long. To make the most of H-shaped women, you need to be daring with your décolletage! Empire tops and tunics are also recommended to make the H woman look her best.
The ideal piece: a flowing shirt with a V-neckline
