Social proof as an ally of the home sales assistant
27 NOVEMBER 2019
1 - Social proof: what is it?
Nowadays, most consumers rely on online reviews and recommendations from friends and family before making a purchase: this is known as social proof.
You'll notice this phenomenon particularly in the restaurant, accommodation, beauty and ready-to-wear sectors. That's why influencers are so widely followed and listened to for their advice.
Social proof can therefore be a perfect ally for fashion VDIs. The more good reviews and customer testimonials you collect, the higher your trust rating will rise.
Examples of social proof
There are many types of social proof:
-
Customer reviews
-
Likes" on social networks
-
Testimonials (in the form of blog posts, for example)
-
Influencer posts
-
Word of mouth..
2 - How can you use social proof for your direct selling business?
As a home-based ready-to-wear retailer, it's particularly interesting to use social proof to help you stand out from the ever-increasing competition in this sector.
The whole concept of door-to-door selling is built around social proof, since the business was originally developed through word-of-mouth.
-
Word of mouth
Word-of-mouth is essential for expanding your network. In particular, we advise you to take advantage of sales meetings to acquire social proof.
Talk to your satisfied customers and ask them to tell their friends and family about you, and to leave you a positive review on the Internet. They can even go so far as to write what's known as a customer testimonial, which you can then publish on your social networks and website.
You can also set up a network of hostesses who will welcome home sales into their homes and invite their friends to take part.
We previously wrote an article to help you recruit hostesses:
-
Social networking
Social networks are a must when it comes to social proof. In the fashion industry, you should focus more on Facebook and Instagram. You can also open a YouTube channel and a Snapchat account to present new collections, talk about the brand you work for, etc.
Likes are a strong indicator of trust. Encourage your customers and friends to follow you on social networks, share your publications and react to your posts. The more positive reactions you receive, the more likely people will be to contact you to find out more about what you sell and how you work.

Influencers
The 'Holy Grail' for a home seller? Getting an influencer to talk about you and your products!
If the opportunity arises, don't hesitate to invite an influencer (instagrammer, youtuber, or any other influential person on the net) to a sales meeting.
With just one positive publication or article, they can become one of your customer ambassadors, boosting your business in no time.
