Would you like to earn extra money to round off your monthly income or compensate for a loss of salary? Whether you have a part-time or full-time job, you have the right to carry out a complementary activity outside your company to boost your income. Elora, the leading network of independent ready-to-wear salespeople, explains how you can earn extra income from home and what steps you need to take.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ADDITIONAL INCOME?
There are three main types of additional income:
- Paid by employers to their employees
- Paid by outside organisations
- Related to a secondary activity
An employer may pay additional income to an employee on an exceptional basis (seniority bonus, overtime pay, etc.) or in the form of benefits in kind (company car, access to leisure activities, luncheon vouchers, etc.).
In certain situations, you may also receive additional pay from a body other than your employer. As an employee, you may qualify under certain conditions for the activity allowance paid by the CAF, the amount of which varies according to your income. If you are off work (illness, accident, etc.), social security (CPAM) will take care of your compensation. Please note that the health insurance scheme will only continue to pay your salary once the waiting period specified in your employment agreement has elapsed. Finally, if you are unemployed, Pôle Emploi is the body responsible for paying your benefits.
You are also entitled to earn money by pursuing a complementary activity, such as self-employment. Many self-employed people choose to do this work from home to keep costs down and to facilitate their professional and personal organisation.
WHAT STEPS SHOULD YOU TAKE TO INCREASE YOUR SALARY BY WORKING FROM HOME?
BEFORE CREATING YOUR AUTO-ENTREPRENEUR STATUS
The first step is to check your rights by consulting the employment contract between you and your current employer. If the activity you have chosen to pursue is similar to the tasks detailed in your contract, you may be obliged to inform your employer of the creation of your business as soon as possible, or to abandon your project if you are subject to a non-competition clause. For greater guarantees and security, it is sometimes advisable to call in an employment law expert to examine your contract.
REGISTERING AS A SELF-EMPLOYED PERSON
To obtain auto-entrepreneur status, you must apply for registration online via the URSSAF website. You will need to detail the scope of your activity in order to obtain your Siret number.
DAY-TO-DAY PROCEDURES FOR A SELF-EMPLOYED ENTREPRENEUR
Unlike employees, auto-entrepreneurs are responsible for declaring their income to URSSAF. This declaration can be made on a monthly or quarterly basis. Once the social security contributions have been paid to URSSAF, the self-employed person can take a salary.
